Bellator NYC Results: Chael Sonnen Defeats Wanderlei Silva, Calls Out Fedor
Chael Sonnen defeated Wanderlei Silva at Bellator NYC--then he called out Fedor Emelianenko.
That headline is real.
During a wild and wacky night of fights at Bellator NYC inside Madison Square Garden, Chael Sonnen ground out a unanimous decision victory over longtime rival Wanderlei Silva. Using his superior wrestling, Sonnen took down Silva time and time again, smothering him from the top and scoring with ground-and-pound and submission attempts.
Silva did have his moments, rocking Sonnen on a few occasions, but Sonnen was ultimately able to recover each and every time, relying on his grappling chops to turn the tables and the momentum back in his favor.
For his efforts, he took home a 30-26 scorecard and two 30-27's.
That's where the normalcy ended.
Taking the mic, Sonnen slammed the host state, saying, "Go*ddamn do I hate New York."
Then, he turned his attention to a Russian legend who lost via knockout earlier in the evening, Fedor Emelianenko.
Claiming Emelianenko denied him an autograph backstage, Sonnen fired away, saying he would get that signature--but it'd come at the bottom of a fight contract.
"You never piss off the bad guy," Sonnen concluded in his callout of "The Last Emperor."
