Before Ben Askren took over ONE Championship and became its welterweight king, he ruled Bellator MMA.

With Bellator undergoing so many changes in recent years, it's easy to forget the company was once founded on the "tournament" format, where competitors would advance round by round for their chance at gold.

Askren dominated this game. He won the Bellator Season 2 Welterweight Tournament in 2010 and never looked back, winning five more fights (four title defenses) inside the Bellator cage.

But it wasn't just that he was winning -- it's how he was winning and who he was beating that makes it even more impressive.

During his stretch in Bellator, Askren defeated (in order): Ryan Thomas (twice), Dan Hornbuckle, Lyman Good, Nick Thompson, Jay Hieron, Douglas Lima, Karl Amoussou, and Andrey Koreshkov.

A 29-year-old Brazilian, Lima is the current Bellator king and has only lost to Askren and Koreshkov in the past eight years. Lima is unquestionably one of the best welterweights outside the UFC competing today.

Koreshkov became the Bellator champ after Askren left and defended in impressive fashion against former UFC champion Benson Henderson. A 27-year-old Russian, Koreshkov would get knocked out by Lima in his second title defense, however, losing the belt in the process. That loss and the loss to Askren are the only two blemishes in his 22-fight career.

Amoussou is currently on a six-fight winning streak.

Good is in the UFC, while Hieron went on to the UFC and has since retired from MMA competition.
