When Sodiq Yusuff stepped into the cage at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, he was a substantial underdog. Because of his opponent Mike Davis’ undefeated record, all of which came by knockout, odds for Yusuff in some sportsbooks the odds reached as high as +230.

His teammate and good friend, James Vick, saw this as an opportunity and cashed in with some crafty gambling. Who would know better that Yusuff was a live dog in that fight?

Vick cashed out there, but he was not quite as lucky when it came to his buddy’s UFC Fight Night 142 fight in Adelaide, where Yusuff came in as a giant favorite. However, according to the Nigerian, that didn’t stop his friend from laying down some dough. 

“I’m not that big into betting, but I know [Vick] is,” Yusuff said. “He always bets on me.”

Because of how big of a favorite Yusuff was (about -500 in most places), Vick had to get a little creative in how to make money.

“Yeah, he said the only way he could have made money was to do a super specific bet,” Yusuff said.

And with Yusuff’s history of shutting people’s lights out and doing so quickly, that super specific bet was an easy one to determine.

“He bet me finishing in the first round,” Yusuff said. “That one wasn’t as crazy as winning in general.”

With a second bet cashed by his good friend after Yusuff sealed the deal vs. Mokhtarian is just over two minutes, Yusuff isn’t overlooking all he’s done for Vick. In fact, he’s hoping a bit of that money comes back to his pocket at some point. 

“One of these days, I’m gonna hit him with an audit or something and try to get some money back,” Yusuff joked. 

If he keeps this trend up, Vick certainly will have plenty to share with him.
