Valor Fighting Challenge 58 Results, Recap: 'Rambo Joe' Shines
Valor Fights 58 did not disappoint. Check out the full results from Friday's card.
Friday night, top Tennessee-based MMA promotion Valor Fights returned for another night of facing punching with Fight Night at the Joe 5.
Also known as Valor Fights 58, the event took place at the Cotton Eyed Joe in Knoxville, featuring twelve top-tier amateur MMA, kickboxing, and muay thai bouts.
The card aired live and exclusively on FloCombat.
In the main event of the evening, “Rambo Joe” Joseph Long returned to the cage, looking to keep his undefeated record alive. Standing in his way of advancing to 5-0 was a very tough, reputable foe in Micah Downs.
Putting his belt on the line for the first time, Long’s wide-ranging arsenal of MMA attacks were on full display. After having some success on the feet, Long knocked Downs off balance with a vicious leg kick.
Once the fight hit the ground, Long tactically moved to an advantageous position. Downs did all he could to defend, but Long grabbed hold of an arm, locking in a deep armbar. Downs had no choice but to tap out--Long retaining his championship as a result.
Following the bout, Long issued a challenge to all 155 pounders. In addition, the Tennessee native hinted at a move to 145 pounds in his next outing. Be on the lookout as Valor Fights might be on the verge of crowning a champ champ this June.
In the co-main event, a close majority decision went the way of Emory Norred, as he defeated Justin Abner.
The most impressive performance of the night may have belonged to Ovince St. Preux protege Stevean Wilson. The 25-year-old middleweight ripped through his opponent Anthony Rogers, landing brutal ground-and-pound en route to a quick first round TKO stoppage.
The rest of the Valor Fights 58 card delivered, with head kick knockouts, slick submissions, and back-and-forth decision battles.
