American Kombat Alliance (AKA) brought Ark-La-Tex Konflict 1 live to FloCombat Saturday, Sept. 1. Here's what went down.
Two amateur titles were on the line—welterweight and heavyweight—while a professional featherweight scrap between Anthony Retic and Jesse Butler served as the main event of the 15-fight card.
When it came time for that marquee showdown, both Retic and Butler immediately took the center of the cage and looked to establish their attacks with some low leg kicks.
Retic was using his length to keep Butler at range. Butler attempted to change levels at the end of Round 1, but Rektic was able to defend the takedown as the bell sounded. Butler was the more active fighter to enter the second frame and began controlling the cage.
Finally, Butler got the fight to the mat midway through Round 2 and wasted no time keeping the pressure on with some ground-and-pound from inside the guard. After a scramble, Butler latched on to Retic’s neck and was able to force the tap to bring an end to the night.
