559 Fights 59
559 Fights 59 streamed live from Visalia, California.
It was a battle of the unbeatens in the main event at 559 Fights 59 as Albert Gonzales and Nick Maximov squared off inside the cage.
Both prospects had garnered solid buzz coming into their showdown in Visalia on Saturday night, but someone's "0" certainly had to go, and it was Maximov who set about getting the job done in dominant fashion.
Maximov wasted no time getting to work as he put Gonzales on his heels with a barrage of offense straight out the gate that ended with Gonzales being put on the canvas. Once on the mat, Maximov went into a nasty chain of submission attempts that force Gonzales to twirl and spin in every direction just to get away.
And while he was able to shake free of the leg attacks, it was an armbar which nearly brought the fight to an end in the first. Nevertheless, Gonzales survived the onslaught and lived to see the second frame.
The second round saw Maximov abandon the submission attempts for straight up mauling ground and pound attack. He took Gonzales to the mat, quickly moved to mount and unloaded punches in bunches to a basically defenseless Gonzales. Somehow Gonzales survived the round, but the fight was all but signed, sealed and delivered at that point. Maximov dumped Gonzales on the mat to start the third and it was simply more of the same until the final bell sounded.
With the victory, Maximov moves to 5-0, and picked up the 559 Fights Middleweight crown in the process.
